ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION

Artificial Grass Supply & Installation

Verdant Landscape Gardens supplies and installs artificial grass for domestic gardens, from individual lawn replacements to larger garden refurbishment projects.

Our installations include the removal of existing lawns, excavation, preparation of a suitable sub-base, consideration of drainage and the fitting and finishing of artificial grass. We can also coordinate the installation with patios, paths, decking and planting areas.

With landscaping teams based in Farnborough and Caversham, we undertake artificial grass installation across Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey. We can discuss whether artificial grass or a natural lawn is more appropriate for your garden and how you intend to use it.

HOW WE WORKS

Our Process

A successful artificial grass installation depends on more than the surface itself. We assess the existing ground, intended use, finished levels and drainage requirements before preparing the base and installing the selected grass.

Our team can undertake the necessary excavation, ground preparation, edging and installation as a standalone project or as part of wider garden landscaping.

GROUND PREPARATION & INSTALLATION

Professional Artificial Grass Ground Preparation

The quality of an artificial grass installation depends heavily on the preparation beneath it. Simply laying artificial grass over an unsuitable surface can lead to uneven areas, movement and drainage problems.

We assess the existing ground and undertake the necessary excavation, installation and compaction of suitable base materials, and preparation of the final laying surface. The construction depends on the site conditions, intended use and the artificial grass system being installed.

We also consider perimeter restraints, junctions with paving and other garden features, and how surface water will drain. Where required, drainage improvements can be incorporated into the landscaping work.

ARTIFICIAL OR NATURAL GRASS

Is Artificial Grass Right for Your Garden?

Artificial grass can be useful where a homeowner wants to avoid regular mowing or where an area is subject to frequent use. It can also provide a consistent appearance in locations where maintaining natural turf has proved difficult.

However, artificial grass is not maintenance-free. Leaves and debris need removing, the pile may require brushing, and areas used by pets need regular cleaning. Artificial surfaces can also become considerably hotter than natural grass in direct sunlight.

Natural lawns offer different benefits, including a cooler living surface and support for garden wildlife. Verdant installs both natural turf and artificial grass, allowing us to discuss the practical advantages and disadvantages of each option rather than recommending the same solution for every garden.

ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION COSTS

How Much Does Artificial Grass Installation Cost?

The cost of artificial grass installation depends on the size and shape of the area, the selected grass, existing ground conditions and the preparation required.

Removing an existing lawn, disposing of excavated materials, constructing a suitable sub-base, improving drainage and installing perimeter edging can all affect the quotation. Areas with restricted access or complex shapes may also require additional labour.

Verdant prepares quotations based on the site and agreed specification, covering the ground preparation and installation rather than simply the cost of the artificial grass material.

artificial grass FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How long does artificial grass last?

The lifespan of artificial grass depends on the product quality, installation, amount of use and maintenance.

Different products have different manufacturer warranties and expected service lives. Heavy use, sunlight exposure and inadequate ground preparation can affect how the surface performs over time.

We can discuss suitable products and their specifications for your particular garden.

Artificial grass can be suitable for family gardens and areas used by dogs, provided an appropriate product and installation system are selected.

For gardens used by pets, drainage and regular cleaning are particularly important to prevent odours and maintain hygiene.

Artificial grass can also become hot in direct sunlight, so surface temperatures should be checked before children or pets use it during hot weather.

Yes. Water needs to drain through or away from the artificial grass installation.

The appropriate base construction depends on the existing ground conditions and where water can discharge. Where the site has poor drainage, additional groundworks or drainage measures may be required.

We assess these conditions before recommending the installation method.

We would not normally recommend laying artificial grass directly over an existing natural lawn.

The existing grass and unsuitable underlying material generally need to be removed before constructing a properly prepared and compacted base.

This helps achieve a more stable and even finished surface.

Artificial grass requires regular removal of leaves, litter and other debris. Brushing may also be necessary to maintain the appearance of the pile, particularly in frequently used areas.

Pet waste should be removed promptly, and affected areas cleaned using methods appropriate for the grass product.

Maintenance requirements vary by manufacturer, so the relevant product guidance should be followed.

Both have advantages and disadvantages.

Natural turf provides a living, cooler surface that supports garden biodiversity, but requires mowing, watering during establishment and ongoing lawn care.

Artificial grass avoids mowing and maintains a consistent appearance, but still needs cleaning and maintenance and has environmental drawbacks.

Verdant installs both, so we can discuss which is more appropriate for your garden, its intended use and your preferences.
