Our Process
A successful lawn installation depends on what happens before the turf is laid. We assess the existing ground, proposed lawn levels, soil conditions and drainage requirements before agreeing the work involved.
For larger lawns, this may include substantial earthworks, imported topsoil, drainage installation and irrigation systems. Our teams coordinate these elements with the preparation and laying of the turf.

LAWN IRRIGATION & ESTABLISHMENT
Lawn Irrigation & Successful Establishment
Newly laid turf needs consistent moisture while the roots establish. This is particularly important on large lawn installations, where watering the entire area manually can be difficult and time-consuming.
Verdant can install irrigation systems as part of a new lawn project, with sprinkler coverage and watering zones planned around the lawn layout and available water supply. An appropriately designed system helps distribute water across the lawn and can make ongoing watering more manageable.
We also provide guidance on watering, initial mowing and protecting the new lawn during establishment. Irrigation requirements will vary according to the weather, soil conditions and the lawn’s stage of growth.

GROUNDWORKS & LAWN DRAINAGE
Ground Preparation, Lawn Drainage & Levelling
The condition of the ground beneath a lawn has a significant effect on its long-term performance. Compacted soil, poor levels and inadequate drainage can lead to standing water, uneven growth and difficult maintenance.
We undertake the necessary ground preparation, which may include removing existing turf, excavation, soil cultivation, importing topsoil and grading the site to suitable finished levels.
Where site conditions require it, we can also install lawn drainage systems before the turf is laid. For larger landscaping projects, we coordinate the lawn levels and drainage with surrounding patios, retaining walls, paths and planting areas.

Over 4 days they put in a compacted base, built oak framed raised beds and cut in all the paving slabs to provide a path around the entire area before finally filling the beds with new topsoil. The team at Verdant replaced a stone patio from our new build developers with a stunning Porcelain tile as well as created a new secondary patio around our garden office, and levelled all the grounds finishing with a an amazing premium quality artificial grass. Finished off with a top class veranda to give us plenty of shade and shelter from the rain! It was a big job, but they delivered and completed in under 2 weeks, which was astonishing.

Sean firstly, relaxed but professional on the first call and very quick at arranging a visit to look at the work to be done.
First meeting very friendly and put me at ease straight away.
There was lots of phone calls regarding work/quotes and questions and he took it all in his stride.

How Much Does Professional Lawn Installation Cost?
The cost of a new lawn depends on the area involved, existing ground conditions, site access and the amount of preparation required.

Can you install large lawns?
Yes. Verdant undertakes large lawn installations, including projects requiring substantial ground preparation, levelling, topsoil, drainage and irrigation.
We can install a new lawn as a standalone project or as part of a wider garden refurbishment.
Can you install an irrigation system with a new lawn?
Yes. We can install irrigation systems as part of a lawn installation project.
Depending on the garden and available water supply, these may include pop-up sprinklers, separate watering zones and suitable controls. We consider sprinkler coverage, water pressure and the lawn layout when planning the installation.
Can you improve drainage beneath a lawn?
Yes. Where ground conditions and site drainage arrangements allow, we can install drainage systems as part of the lawn preparation works.
The appropriate solution depends on soil conditions, levels, the cause of waterlogging and where collected water can be discharged. We assess these factors before recommending the work required.
How long does newly laid turf take to establish?
New turf often begins rooting into the prepared soil within two to three weeks, although establishment varies with the season, temperature, soil conditions and watering.
Heavy foot traffic should be avoided until the turf is securely rooted. We provide guidance on watering and the first mow following installation.
What is the best time of year to lay turf?
Spring and autumn often offer favourable conditions for laying turf because temperatures are generally moderate and the soil retains moisture.
Turf can also be installed at other times when ground and weather conditions are suitable, provided adequate watering is available. Frozen or waterlogged ground should be avoided.
