Every patio project is assessed individually, taking account of the existing ground conditions, access, drainage, levels and the intended use of the space. We establish the construction requirements before work begins and coordinate the installation from preparation through to completion.

PAVING MATERIALS & DESIGN
Porcelain, Sandstone & Limestone Patios
The choice of paving has a significant effect on the appearance, maintenance requirements and character of a garden. We install a range of natural stone and porcelain products, helping customers select materials appropriate for their property and how the patio will be used.
Porcelain paving is available in a wide selection of colours and finishes, offering a consistent appearance and relatively low water absorption. Natural sandstone provides variation in colour and texture, while limestone offers a distinctive appearance with both contemporary and traditional applications.
We also consider slab sizes, laying patterns, joint widths, edging details and how the paving connects with steps, lawns, pathways and adjoining surfaces. These details are incorporated into the proposed installation rather than treated as an afterthought.

How We Construct a Patio
The performance of a patio depends heavily on the construction beneath the paving. Inadequate excavation, poorly compacted sub-bases and incorrect drainage can contribute to settlement, movement and standing water.
Our installations begin with an assessment of the existing ground and the required finished levels. Where appropriate, we excavate to the necessary depth, prepare and compact the sub-base, and install the paving on a suitable mortar bed.
For porcelain paving, we use a suitable bonding slurry on the underside of the slabs to promote adhesion to the mortar bed. The paving is laid to the required falls and finished with an appropriate jointing material.
We also consider drainage, edging restraints, retaining walls, thresholds, steps and connections to existing surfaces. The precise construction specification is determined by site conditions, the selected paving and the intended use of the area.

The team at Verdant replaced a stone patio from our new build developers with a stunning Porcelain tile as well as created a new secondary patio around our garden office, and levelled all the grounds finishing with a an amazing premium quality artificial grass. Sean firstly, relaxed but professional on the first call and very quick at arranging a visit to look at the work to be done.
First meeting very friendly and put me at ease straight away.
There was lots of phone calls regarding work/quotes and questions and he took it all in his stride.

Which is better for a patio, porcelain or natural stone?
Both can be suitable choices. Porcelain paving generally has low water absorption, consistent dimensions and a wide range of finishes. Natural sandstone and limestone offer distinctive colour and texture variations.
The most appropriate material depends on the appearance you want, maintenance considerations, the intended use of the patio and your budget. We can discuss these factors when planning the installation.
Can you build a patio on a sloping garden?
Yes. Sloping gardens can often accommodate patios through careful planning of finished levels, excavation, steps and retaining structures.
Depending on the site, additional groundworks or drainage may be required. We assess these requirements before preparing the proposed construction specification.
How should I maintain my new patio?
Regular sweeping and removing leaves and other debris will help keep the surface in good condition. Periodic cleaning may also be needed, depending on the paving material and surrounding environment.
Cleaning products and pressure-washing methods should be suitable for the specific paving and jointing materials. Natural stone may require different care from porcelain, and some surfaces benefit from specialist treatments.
How long does patio installation take?
Installation time depends on the patio’s size, access, ground conditions and the amount of construction involved.
A straightforward replacement patio may take considerably less time than a project involving substantial excavation, drainage, retaining walls or changes in levels. We can provide an estimated programme once the scope of work has been established.
Do you carry out the groundwork and drainage as well as laying the paving?
Yes. Our patio installation service includes the necessary groundwork and preparation specified for the project, rather than simply laying slabs onto an existing surface.
This can include excavation, waste removal, sub-base preparation, drainage, edging, steps and paving installation. We assess the site to determine which elements are required for a suitable finished result.
